Science

When connected to the Internet, data is received at a particular rate (bits per second). This is often called "bandwidth". Examples of high bandwidth are DSL and Cable Internet connections. Examples of low bandwidth are dial-up modem connections of 14.4, 28.8 or 56 Kilobits per second.

This term is also used to indicate a range of frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum, such as radio waves; measured in cycles per second as hertz (Hz) or in thousands-of-cycles per second as kilohertz (kHz).
