Mysticism
The moniker “dervish” has been ascribed to those practicing Sufi mysticism with a particularly ascetic attitude. In Farsi (the language of Persia, or modern day Iran), the word “dervish” means mendicant or simply poor, but with a connotation of humility and humbleness. Traditionally, the dervish is one who firmly adhered to the practice of tawakkul, or total reliance on God for food, shelter, clothes, etc.
