Church           Go back

Etymologically the word church comes from the Greek kurios, meaning lord, master, or king. From kurios came kuriakon, which meant house of the lord. Through Old English and Middle English it morphed into the modern word church. The church is the modern house of Christian worship. The Christian notion of a house of worship originally came from contact with the Judaic houses of worship, the Synagogue. The church is the gathering place for Christians to come together in prayer and glorification of God and Jesus the Christ.
